For those among you who love French history and dream of getting married in a castle in the beautiful Loire Valley, also known as the Valley of the Kings, you will fall in love with this majestic castle built in white stone which commands the surrounding countryside. Its romantic and whimsical air immediately bring to mind the decadence of the 18th century when it was rebuilt, in true Marie-Antoinette style.
Twenty-five hectares of park containing a French garden, marble statues, wood-work and trompe l'oeil frescos all positioned around the main castle building. No expense was spared in the transformation of this beautiful residence, now an elegant castle hotel located south of Tours.
The first castle was built on the hill (the Puy) during the Hundred Years' War as part of the defences built along the Indre River. As the centuries passed and following a series of restorations, it became a hybrid edifice, with neo-Gothic towers and pseudo Renaissance wings around the old manor house which its new owner, the inventor of the modern perfume industry, did not like. He demolished it in 1912, building in its place a sumptuous castle in pure 18th century style.
The castle boasts 65 rooms of 5 different categories, from the most elegant apartment to the most delightful "Traditional" room. The rooms are located in the Castle or in 3 other out-buildings located on the grounds of the property. All rooms are elegantly decorated in-keeping with their historic location while enjoying modern comforts. They offer magnificent views over the Indre and its valley, the French garden, the castle or the park.
The sparkle of champagne in every glass and the joy on every face will reflect the scenes in the trompe-l'oeil frescos painted by Hoffbauer on the ceiling of the domed garden house. Music, laughter and lively discussions will blossom in the castle's beautiful salons which can accommodate between 30 and 150 guests. Ask your wedding coordinator to recreate a true Marie-Antoinette themed wedding for you complete with period costumes, an abundance of flowers and hundreds of candles to recreate this romantic, whimsical and decadent period in French history.
